A World War II teapot with a black ground, hand decorated with flowers, the lid having inscribed' U.S.A. BRITAIN AND DEMOCRACY ' together with a vintage 20th Century Japanese teapot.English potteries produced teapots such as this, decorated with black glaze and simple, hand-painted flowers, during World War II as part of a fundraising program to provide money, equipment, and supplies necessary for Britain's war effort.From 1939 to 1945, the United States and Canada provided escort ships to convoys of merchant marine vessels carrying massive cargoes to England. Once the ships arrived safely in England, British dock workers unloaded them and refilled them with English ceramic ware which served as ballast for their return trip. On arrival in America the ships full of teapots and other goods would be unloaded and distributed to merchants who sold them as a way of helping to pay for the convoy costs. Measures 14cm tall
A small group of mixed oriental wares to include a set of five famille verte Chinese hexagonal plates with peacock decoration. A pair of ceramic blanc de chine figures holding louts flowers, a 20th Century Chinese Yixing brown clay teapot having handle and spout modelled as a tree trunk with relief flower heads and pierced decorated tree with drop black background to body. Marks to base and under side of cover and a wooden carved figure of warrior. Plates measure 18cm wide by 18cm deep.
A group of ceramic Continental pill pots / boxes dating from the 19th Century to include three enamelled examples one light blue and a cobalt blue and turquoise, with all having central floral decoration to the lid, with gilt detailing throughout and gilt metal. Together with another having white ground and similar decoration. All bearing marks to base, one for Limoges France and two having an S with crossed oak leaves etc. Biggest measures 2.5cm tall by 5cm wide.
