A Victorian mahogany extending dining table, with four leaves, with moulded edge and four downswept legs terminating in carved scroll feet and ceramic castors. Width 143 cm, length excluding leaves 182 cm, the four leaves adding 177 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The table is generally in good order. The four leave are ever so slightly darker than the ends. The table top is flat. The leaves are not warped. There are no significant splits and only minor scratches and scuffs as one would expect. Each leaf has the addition of a bottom edge frieze with gilt border to match the ends. The gilt line around the ends and to the legs is clearly a later embellishment. The winding mechanism has detached itself from the underside of the table. The winding mechanism requires some attention. Where the mechanism attaches to the frieze there is a stress fracture. The legs are all in good order. We can see no evidence of any woodworm. The only real issue is the attention required to the winding mechanism.
