A Furness Railway Company large 3-aspect HANDLAMP. A Furness Railway style brass plate on the side-catch clearly engraved "LMS. Per.Way. HAVERTHWAITE". Two side catches; a brass ring with three notches; and a typical F.R. Co. domed floor. The body bears an oval brass "The Lamp Manufacturing Co Ltd London" maker's plate. Complete with LMS style vessel; "LMS" brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. Repainted. Haverthwaite station, on the Lakeside Branch to Lake Windermere, opened in 1869, closed in 1955, and was re-opened by The Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in 1973.
A London & South Western Railway general purpose HANDLAMP, the reducing-cone bearing a copper-plate clearly stamped "Signal Lineman WADEBRIDGE". Clearly stamped "SWR" on one side, it has a fluted cap; back wire handles, and all glasses. Complete with vessel; brass/ceramic burner and sliding reflector. In fine, original condition. Wadebridge was the penultimate station on the "Withered Arm" North Cornwall "Atlantic Coast Express" route from Launceston to Padstow. It opened in 1888, replacing an earlier station nearby opened in 1834, and closed in 1967.
A Birkenhead Joint Railway (LNWR pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body is stamped "L&NWR & GWR WEST KIRBY NEW STATION. A.17196"; the reducing-cone "L&NWR", and the floor "3854" of "1884". Complete with its "LNWR" vessel; "LNWR" brass/ceramic burner; reflector; copper lens-cone and all glasses. In original condition. West Kirby New Station, on the Wirral, opened in 1886 and closed in 1956.
A London Brighton & South Coast Railway 4-aspect long-necked HANDLAMP. The body, stamped "LB&SC Ry", bears a large oval brass plate embossed "London Brighton and South Coast Railway Company; a smaller oval brass maker's plate "Arthur J. Poole Manu. 25 Pershore St, Birmingham", and is stamped "B.1238 MIDHURST" (twice). The reducing-cone is stamped "LB&SCR", and the top handle "B1237 BC". Complete with a vessel stamped "S(B)R"; a SR brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. In fine condition, stripped of paint. Midhurst station, on the Petersfield-Pulborough line, and the junction for Chichester, opened in 1881 (to replace an earlier station opened in 1866), and closed in 1955.
A Cheshire Lines Committee 3-aspect HANDLAMP, the body stamped "CLC.FARNWORTH 6578". Complete with vessel, LMS brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. In fine original condition (the bevelled front lens chipped at the edge). Farnworth CLC station, on the Liverpool-Manchester route, opened in 1873; was renamed "Widnes North" in 1959; "Widnes" in 1968.
A Sirhowy Railway (LNWR pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body is stamped "SIRHOWY RLY.A9224" on one side; "TREDEGAR JCN TRAFFIC No.17 PONTLLANFRAITH" on the other. The brass rear catch is stamped "LNWR". Complete with LMS vessel; LMS brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. THE ONLY LAMP OF THIS COMPANY KNOWN? The Sirhowy Railway opened from Nine Mile Point to Sirhowy in 1860 (only 15 miles long) and amalgamated with the LNWR in 1876. Both sides of this rare lamp are illustrated.
A North Eastern Railway BUFFER-STOP LAMP, the reducing-collar bearing a large, oval brass plate stamped "EXR.STANHOPE NER.No1". The side of the lamp displays the "NER" oval brass label. Complete with its original vessel (also displaying the oval brass "NER" label); brass/ceramic burner; large red bullseye lens; back bracket and top handle. No interior reflector. Painted red. VGC. Stanhope station, on the Weardale Railway from Bishop Auckland, opened in 1895 and closed to passengers in 1953. It replaced the earlier terminus station that had opened in 1862, and of course this lamp could emanate from that station.
A LNER (GNSR pattern) 4-aspect HANDLAMP (one orange), the reducing-cone bearing a curved brass plate stamped "P.Way KEITH", and an oval brass maker's label "R.C. Murray & Co. Carlton Court, Bridge St, Glasgow". The body is stamped "LNER". Complete with a vessel; brass/ceramic burner; reflector, two of its three drum glasses, and cracked front lens. Repainted. Keith Town station, on the Keith Junction-Craigellachie line, opened in 1862 and closed in 1968.
A very early P&O ceramic dish in the green design with scalloped edges and the central "Quis Separabit" rising sun crest. Base-marked with the ornate shield (illustrating a galleon), anchor, bush, "Caledonian" scroll, and registration mark for 1852. By RMW & Co (Ridgeway, Morley & Wear Co.) 101/2"x91/2". VGC.
A GWR 'copper-top' pre-grouping HANDLAMP. The reducing-cone bears a brass maker's plate. "Petroleum Hand Lamp (Wright's Patent) - Patent Nos....1904.William Sugg & Co. Westminster". This body has an embossed "GWR" cartouche. Complete with original copper and brass vessel (bearing the same brass maker's label); a GWR brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. In unrestored green paint. Rare, I think.
A North London Railway 3-aspect HANDLAMP clearly stamped "N.L.R" on the reducing-cone. A Westwoods Patent lamp with 4 large holes in the floor. A top loop handle fixed to the base of the reducing-cone which has a brass ring. A brass lens rim and brass back catch. Complete with a "LMS" fore-and-aft vessel; "LMS" brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. Restored. A very rare lamp.
A Midland Railway 3-aspect small HANDLAMP, the body and reducing-cone both carrying matching oval brass plates "Midland Railway 5524B". "MR Co" is also stamped into the body. Complete with its "MR Co" vessel; brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses including the early red and green drum glasses. In fine, original condition.
A LNER unusual style 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body, stamped "LNER", displays an oval brass maker's plate "Robb, Moore & Neill Ltd Ship Chandlers Glasgow Cardiff & London". The reducing-cone bears a curved brass plate stamped "BOAT-OF-GARTEN No.1" Complete with its double-skinned vessel; LNER brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses. This type of lamp seems to be made for just a few ex GNSR stations. The lamp is in fine, original condition. Boat-of-Garten station opened in 1863; closed in 1965, and was re-opened by the Scottish Railway Preservation Society in 1978.
A Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 3-aspect HANDLAMP, the body stamped "LYR SOUTHPORT.P5740". Complete with its original brass-rimmed vessel stamped "LYR"; LMS brass/ceramic burner; reflector; brass back-catch stamped "LYR"; drum stamped "LYR"; and all glasses. In fine original condition except that the brass fittings are polished, and no paint on the body. Southport had a few LYR stations.

The reducing-cone, also stamped "L&SWR", bears a brass "E" (Eastleigh) plate. Complete with pie-crust top; 3 back wire handles; vessel; SR brass/ceramic burner; reflector; and all glasses. In fine, original condition, mostly stripped of paint. Pinhoe station, between Exeter Central and Whimple, opened in 1871, was closed in 1966 but re-opened in 1983.
A Great Northern Railway 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body, stamped "GNR", displays a large, rather worn, brass plate. "Great Northern Railway Company. HORNCASTLE-4". The reducing-cone is stamped "GNR" and dated 1901. Complete with a "LNER" fore-and-aft vessel; brass/ceramic burner; reflector; double pie-crust top and all glasses. In very good, original condition. Horncastle, at the end of a Branch from Woodhall Junction (Boston-Lincoln line), opened in 1855 and closed in 1954.
A Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway (large Midland pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP, the style with no skirt and a fluted cap. The body bears two brass plates - an oval one lettered "Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway 435"; and a large rectangular one stamped "Guard Baker HIGHBRIDGE". The reducing-cone bears an oval brass maker's plate "G. Polkey Ltd Manufacturers Birmingham". Complete with a LMS vessel; LMS brass/ceramic burner; reflector; and all glasses. In fine, original condition.
A LNER (GCR pattern) 3-aspect HANDLAMP. The body, stamped "LNE-C" and "10262.A" bears a large rectangular brass plate stamped "LNE-C 10262A.STAVELEY WORKS". Complete with a LNER-C vessel; BR brass/ceramic burner; reflector and all glasses (one drum glass cracked). Repainted. Staveley Works station, between Staveley Town and Sheepbridge and Whittington Moor stations on the way to Chesterfield Central, opened in 1892 and closed in 1963.
