Goode & Co., the plates - 9 3/4 in. (25cm.) diameter (3), Lit: Pugh & Pugh: Naval Ceramics, Plate 129 `C`, Ceramic Book Society, 1971.

Two Pontypool japanned circular small trays, second half 18th century, one painted with flowers, the other with fruit and with a shaped sunken centre, on black grounds, within a moulded cavetto and pierced rims, 23.5cm and 25cm diameter. See John, W. D. and Simcox, Jacqueline `English Decorated Trays` Newport: The Ceramic Book Company 1964, p. 102-103 for a similar tray to the second. The authors suggest the sunken centre is for wine glasses and to date to circa 1755-60. Provenance: Longsdon Visit www.dnfa.com for condition reports
