Two Pontypool japanned circular small trays, second half 18th century, one painted with flowers, the other with fruit and with a shaped sunken centre, on black grounds, within a moulded cavetto and pierced rims, 23.5cm and 25cm diameter. See John, W. D. and Simcox, Jacqueline `English Decorated Trays` Newport: The Ceramic Book Company 1964, p. 102-103 for a similar tray to the second.
