EMANUELE LUZZATI (Genoa, 1921-2007)."La bella e il gallo".Painted and glazed ceramic.Signed on the base.Size: 24 x 23 x 8 cm.Painter, ceramist, draughtsman, animator and set designer, Emanuele Luzzati trained at the School of Fine Arts in Lausanne (Switzerland), a city to which he had to emigrate due to his Jewish origin and the fascist racial laws that the fascist regime and the Italian Social Republic had launched in Italy between 1938 and 1945. Eclectic in character, Luzzati is the interpreter of a skilful and cultured figurative culture, capable of masterly use of all kinds of materials: from terracotta to enamel, from woollen weaving for tapestries to engraving on different supports, including collages of paper and fabrics composed to construct sketches of scenes, costumes and naval scenes. The richness of his fantastic world, the immediacy and expressiveness of his highly personal style have made him one of the most admired artists. From the late 1950s onwards he made more than a dozen animated shorts. As a set designer he worked for the London Festival Ballet, the Chicago Opera House and the Vienna Staatsoper. He also collaborated as an illustrator of works by Italo Calvino and the Brothers Grimm, and was nominated for an Oscar in 1966 and 1974 for the animated shorts "La gazza ladra" and "Pulcinella".
