A late 19th century Japy Freres bronze clock garniture set with Sevres style hand painted porcelain plaques, the clock surmounted by a female artist in classical dress, chiming, the face ceramic and flanked by two urns with the lids having reversible finials into sconces, measuring 35cm high.
A Ming Dynasty Chinese white glazed ceramic high foot cup, delicately incised with a dragon and flaming pearl, with leaf border to the base of the bowl, with six character reign mark to the base for Chenghua (1465-1487), the glaze has pooled at the base and there are some foot rim glaze chips, measuring 58mm high and 63mm across the rim.
Chinese apple shaped brushwasher, pingguo zun Kangxi Mark, 19th century of stoutly potted globular shape with an inset rim, glazed in a light copper red with flambe and mottling effects and random green glaze spots, the glazed base with a well drawn six character mark of the Kangxi period (1662-1722) in underglaze blue. The pingguo zun , an apple shaped water jar, was a known scholars desk ornament form in China. See Stephen W. Bushell - Oriental Ceramic Art (1899) who writes "Two favorite designs, for example, of the little water-bottles intended to be used with the writer s pallet [sic] are the p ing-kuo tsun [pingguo zun] or apple jar, which is molded as an exact facsimile in size and shape of the fruit, and its fellow, the shih-liu tsun [shiliu zun] or pomegranate jar.
