Roman Ceramic Quadriga Oil Lamp1st century AD An oil lamp with scrolled nozzle and broad discus bearing a low-relief image of a quadriga with driver and team of four horses; to the underside, old collector`s labels. 87 grams, 11 cm. (4 1/4"). Ex Sir William Temple collection, acquired Pozzuoli, Italy. Sir William Temple was a British diplomat who acquired a great deal of Roman and Etruscan material during his time at Naples in the early 19th century.
