Ca. 460-450 BC. A ceramic oinochoe in the form of a female head with dark brown hair swept back over the ear. Her elegant arched brow and large eyes are carefully picked out in a black pigment; her prominent nose sits above full, pursed lips and a strong chin. The vessel is equipped with a high, ear-shaped handle and trefoil rim. Oinochoai were an ancient Greek type of jug made from precious metal, bronze, or clay used to dispense wine during a symposium. It is often depicted in conjunction with a phiale during the pouring of libations for the gods at an altar. Ca. 340-325 BC. A ceramic lekanis of the red-figure lid with two female profile heads between palmettes and stylised volutes. The "Ladies of Fashion" with ornate saccoi leaving a chignon projecting at the rear, a spiked stephane, earrings, and necklaces. The lid's knob handle with radiating strokes on top. The black-glazed dish with an inset flange to receive the lid, is set on a high hollow foot. For reference see Green, J. Ca. 100-200 AD. A terracotta oil lamp with a globular body with a spout with a vent hole and flaring finial. Circular discus with a filling hole, decorated with a mask in relief and framed with raised edge. Ring base and pierced handle. Oil lamps were an important commodity in the ancient Roman world and were used for both practical and religious purposes. Roman oil lamps were typically made from terracotta or ceramic materials, although examples of metal and glass also exist.
