A large Arts and Crafts brass four-light electrolier in the Manner of WAS Benson, late 19th/early 20th century, the rise-and-fall action centred with a large opaline glass domed shade with a wavy edge, and surrounded by three further lights, each fitted with a conical tapering glass shade,75cm diameter 110cm high overallCondition ReportAll shades free from damage, the brass tarnished, the fittings in need of renewal and seem to be an amalgamation of ages and styles, with ceramic elements, the fitting possibly formally silvered , brass now and lightly pitted throughout, rise and fall action functioning but not suitably counterweighted currently, requires tweaking, shade screws required attention
A small Chinese Hongmu and porcelain table screen, Qing Dynasty style, 20th century; and a Chinese watercolour scroll of silk production, decorated with a central ceramic panel decorated with assorted vases, 28cm high, 22cm wide; also a small Chinese decorative scroll, painted with a single panel in manner of Jiao Bingzhen (act. 1689-1726), depicting figures sorting silkworm cocoons, 22.5cm high,. 22.5cm wide (panel) (2)
A fine George IV rosewood hall table, circa 1825, by S.Jamar with a circular tilt top, inlaid with a wide band of gilt brass fretwork, decorated with interlocking panels of arabesques, on a tapered pillar and tri-form platform base, with stepped drum feet and ceramic and brass inset castors, 76cm high, 128cm wide (includes later glass top) This table is stamped twice ‘S.Jamar’, once on the top of the pedestal and once on the support frame of the table top. There is also a Waring & Gillow paper label to the underside, S.Jamar is a celebrated furniture maker working circa 1818-1845 mainly in Soho, London. He claimed it ‘was ‘equal to any made in Paris, and at a rate that upon calculation will be admitted considerably advantageous than importing from abroad, also without incurring the risk of being damaged on the journey’. Refer: Gilbert, A Pictorial History of London Marked Furniuture 1700-1840, 1996. His work was strongly influenced by 19th century Emprire french furniture design and the Boulle inlaid works by Thomas Bullock.
