Overstuffed seat cushion with serpentine frieze all raised on small cabriole legs with white ceramic castors. Measures approx; 94cm x 68cm x 62cm.

Shakespeare (William) A Midsommer Nights Dreame, one of 75 copies with plates on Japanese Paper, from an edition of 375 copies signed by the artist, half-title, engraved frontispiece, additional title and 13 plates by J. Moyr Smith, many tinted, tissue-guards (one working loose), illustrations, ink ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper, the odd spot or patch of finger-soiling, gutter weak, some scattered spotting to endpapers, original morocco-backed dark blue cloth, gilt, quite rubbed with a few patches of soiling, spine with small loss to foot, t.e.g., others uncut, folio, Bernard Quaritch, 1892.⁂ Rare, the last copy appearing at auction in 1921. The illustrator, John Moyr Smith, was a Scottish architect who produced ceramic tiles for Minton, including pictorial tiles depicting themes from Shakespeare.
A 16th Century Ming Dynasty Chinese / Oriental Sancai / spinach & egg glaze ceramic figure of Guandi & stand. Guandi the God of war is depicted sitting wide legged & holding his belt, dressed in aubergine & mustard yellow amour featuring a foo dog mask on his breast plate atop green robes. Holes to his chin suggest use as in incense burner & a pierced slot in his back for depositing prayers. The square stand being of the same sancai glaze has a middle section with etched decoration being held up either side by two mythical creatures / demons. A scrolling serpentine patterns makes up the four feet to the stand. Condition; wear commensurate with age & some visible damage / repair to the neck & back of Guandi. Measures approx; 50cm x 22cm x 14cm.

River village scene painted to the front. Unmarked. Wear commensurate with age throughout with repair to the rim. Measures approx; 58cm x 25cm diameter.
An early 20th Century Japanese / Oriental gilded porcelain / ceramic Satsuma Figure. Depicting two men side by side in ornate traditional robes with gold glaze & floral enamel patterns. On the left a barefooted man with a jovial expression is seen holding a fan. The figure on the right wearing amour & boots standing in a martial arts style pose. Marked to the base in red glaze stating " Satsuma ware, Made in Japan". Condition; fan has been repaired & glued on facing the wrong way. Various signs of glaze ware & some small chips to edges.

The celadon ground decorated with hand painted butterflies and birds interspersed with flowers and further gilt band below. Signs of repairs throughout, mostly to the rim. Unmarked. A Chinese Sancai pottery vase, the ovoid body with short flared neck, the glaze running down leaving the lower part and the base of the vase unglazed, the underside with collector's label reading 'Malcolm Collection' and inscribed in ink 'D.79', 19.5cm highProvenance: The property of a lady, with the collector's label of Sir Neill Malcolm (1869-1953). Sir Neill was a professional soldier and collector of Chinese art. After his retirement he became president of the China Society and was an early member of the Oriental Ceramic Society. His own collection of Chinese art was significant and included ceramics, jades and an important collection of early bronzes.
