TWO EMBROIDERED PANELS AND A PAINTINGComprising: an embroidery of a bird on a branch, amongst scattered fruiting and blossoming branches, flower baskets, a central shou emblem and seals, reputedly by Nellie Ionides (1883-1962); a blue-ground silk satin fragment woven with gold thread to depict the lower portion of a five-clawed dragon, 17th century; and a painting on silk of a parrot perched on a rock issuing chrysanthemum flowers and lingzhi fungus, all framed. The bird embroidery 81.5cm (32 1/8in) high x 104cm (41in) wide. Members of the Oriental Ceramic Society visited Mr and Mrs Ionides' collection of Chinese porcelain in July 1947. She left Chinese porcelain to the V&A Museum, the British Museum and to the Brighton Pavilion. The embroidered panel was reputedly completed during the Second World War and gifted to John Sparks Ltd of whom Ionides was a long standing client.
