Cotman (John Joseph, 1814-1878). Introduction to the Study of the Anatomy of the Human Body; particularly designed for the use of Painters, Sculptors, and Artists in General: translated from the German of John Henry Lavater, 1st edition, Ackermann, 1824, twenty-seven lithograph plates, near contemporary inscription on front pastedown, pencil sketches on endpapers and the verso of final two plates, original roan-backed boards, with printed label on upper cover, worn, with spine lacking, and covers detached, 8vo Inscribed on the front pastedown: 'Given to J.S. Cotman by his Father. June 28th 1834'. The pencil drawings, presumably by English landscape painter John Joseph Cotman (son of John Sell Cotman), comprise mainly of figure and animal studies. (1)
