Illustrations of British Birds 4 vol., lithograph titles and plate lists, 319 hand-coloured lithograph plates, tissue guards, occasional very light foxing, contemporary fine green crushed morocco, ruled in gilt, gilt dentelles, [Nissen 627; Sitwell p.123], folio, [1835-41]. A very fine set. This issue with no dates on title-pages. "With the possible exception of Lord Lilford's Birds, this is the finest and most complete atlas of portraits of British avifauna (with their eggs) ever published", Wood p.462. This set comes with an early 20th century auction catalogue loosely inserted from its original purchase.
