TOM PHILLIPS RA (b.1937) Limited edition framed art print "Number 12 bus - the unwinding", signed bottom right. This is a rare lithograph which originates from a project initiated by Dutchman, Rene Van Bree for New Artists' Ltd with the editorial supervision of Edward Lucie-Smith. This involved 12 European artists producing a design for a print which reflected on their capital city. Tom Phillips represented London. From a small un-numbered edition. Image size 53cm x 71cm
Balmoral: An albumen photograph annotated in ink and inscribed 'Balmoral 1886' including Sir R A Cross and Baron Westerweller, another of the Interior of the dining room - Red Scar`, once the home of the Cross family, two further photographs of Balmoral June 1889 including Lord Cross, another of Balmoral, un dated, including Hon. R A Cross and Viscount Bridport and another of 'The Cabinet 1872 ? annotated in ink including Rt. Hon. B. Disraeli, all mounted on album pages, also a lithograph of Red Scar, Lancashire, the seat of Mrs. Cross.
Antarctica.- Mayer (Attributed to Auguste Etienne Francois, French painter who participated in several Arctic expeditions, 1805-1890) Astrolable, the French ship under the command of Jules Dumont d'Urville (1790-1842), caught in pack ice in Antarctica, pen and black ink, watercolour, heightened with white, sheet 305 x 245 mm. (12 x 9 5/8 in), laid onto card mount with erroneous later inscription below that reads 'The Isabella + Alexander in Baffins Bay 1819, Captain Ross [?] Peary', some browning and surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1838].⁂ A typed label from a previous frame included with the watercolour records that 'Admiral Sir Lane Poole tells me [J. Stevens-Cox] a Print of this original water colour is in the Macpherson collection'; the print mentioned is the lithograph by Mayer 'Les corvettes l'Astrolabe et la Zelee, commandees par Dumont-Durville et Jacquinot, la corvette l'Astrolabe est arretee par une glace a la sortie de la banquise, parages antarctiques, 9 Fevrier 1838', which was published by Gambart Junin & Co., circa 1841. Mayer's lithograph features a wider composition than the present watercolour with more details to each side, but it is possible that the watercolour has been slightly trimmed.
