Lyons & Co. 1947-1955 for an exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, 10th July-12th Sept. In 1947, the catering giant J. Lyons & Co commissioned a series of lithographs by leading British artists such as L S Lowry and Edward Ardizzone to brighten up the war weary interiors of their tea shops. The lithographs were also available for the public to purchase and offered everyday people the chance to own an original work of art. The scheme was a great success and two further series were commissioned in 1951 and 1955.
