Self-portrait (Selbstbildnis), 1934, b&w lithograph, signed, titled and dated in pencil, approx. 32 x 24 cm, some small scattered wormholes, mounted, together with KŠthe Kollwitz, Ten Lithographs, Introductory essay by Elizabeth McCausland, New York, Henry C. Kleemann & Curt Valentin, 1941, some soiling and minor marks and stains to title, loosely contained in orig. cloth-backed boards, with ties, soiled and some damp marking, atlas folio. The signed self-portrait is number 7 from the set of 10 lithographic reproduction in the portfolio. Formerly in the collection of Sylvia Townsend Warner and Valentine Ackland, by whom the artist's signature may have been obtained. (1)

Lyons & Co. 1947-1955 for an exhibition at the Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne, 10th July-12th Sept. In 1947, the catering giant J. Lyons & Co commissioned a series of lithographs by leading British artists such as L S Lowry and Edward Ardizzone to brighten up the war weary interiors of their tea shops. The lithographs were also available for the public to purchase and offered everyday people the chance to own an original work of art. The scheme was a great success and two further series were commissioned in 1951 and 1955.
