Group of unframed works - to include John Farleigh, Bertram Nicolls and others - two nude pen sketches in mounts (one signed) by John Farleigh and approx 35 pencil sketches believed to be by Bertram Nicholls, a Charles Shannon 1893 lithograph, one watercolour by Deliss, drawing by Gilbert James, four plates from The Art Decorator October 1903, and sketches by Mike Jacks. Provenance: By descent from Douglas Shepherd (1922-1989), a designer and architect working on public houses for the brewery firm Ind Coope. He was heavily influenced by and was a serious collector of Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau, including leading designers and artists such as Charles Ashlee and Jessie M King. He assembled a large collection from the 1950s to 1970s. His book collection was subsequently sold through Sotherby’s and in 2013 his magnificent silver collection by Archibald Knox and others was sold through these rooms.

Mid 19th Century English School Miniature family portraitswatercolour on white marbleA gentleman and two ladies, with a photograph on marble in matching gilt and rosewood presentation frames12 x 10 cm**CONDITION REPORT**Half length miniature of gentleman with some loss of paint to the black particularly in the lower portion, also some dirt spotting. Both ladies with a little dirt spotting and some very light scuffing in the lower left corners. Other gentleman looks to be a photo lithograph printed onto the marble backing. The other painted miniature is in matching gilt gesso scroll frame, the photo of the gentleman in a slightly different frame but very close, all in matching outer glazed rosewood frames.
