(48.25 x 69.25cm.) * This is one of the `Sketches in Oil` prepared by Leech for his exhibition in London in 1862, opening at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly and later moving to the Auction Mart Gallery, Royal Exchange. The `Sketches in oil` were enlarged lithographs of his Punch cartoons, blown up by a process invented by the Electro-Block Printing Company and then painted in oils, a technique he learnt from Millais.
