Lithograph of the Lebaudy airship “Morning Post” over Brighton. Printed in colour, finished by hand. Framed, mounted and glazed, (91cmx57cm). In 1910, the British Newspaper “The Morning Post” raised a subscription to purchase one of the new Lebaudy Military Airships being built by the French Sugar Manufacturers Lebaudy Brothers. The ship was purchased for the British Army, and named “Morning Post”. On 26 October 1910, the “Morning Post” was flown from Moisson (France) to Aldershot (England), covering 370 km in five and a half hours. The poster shows the “Morning Post” crossing the English coast at Brighton. Printed by Mabileau and Co of Paris the legend at bottom right reads “Le MORNING POST passé a Brighton le 26 Octobre 1910. Moteur PANHARD LEVASSOR, tissu HUTCHINSON” (sic). The poster has suffered damage over the last 103 years, but has been restored during framing. See Plate 3
Lithographic Print of the Speiss-Zodiac Airship. Lithograph printed in colour, finished by hand and signed Gamy. Framed, mounted and glazed (101cmx58cm). Titled “Le dirigeable Rigide Speiss - Zodiac-Moteurs Chenu” this is a work attributed to Marguerite (Gamy) Montaut, the widow of the artist Ernest Montaut, printed by Mabileau and Co of Paris in 1914. The Speiss-Zodiac was the first and only French-built rigid airship. Conceived by Joseph Speiss (a French engineer) in the 1870’s, it was finally built in 1913. Speiss presented the airship to the French Government as a gift, but after trials with the Army, it was not accepted, and eventually broken up (probably in 1914). The picture depicts the airship flying at speed over the Sacre-Coeur Basilica in Montmartre with Paris in the background. Some age markings evident. See Plate 3

“Vision d’avenir” Hand coloured lithograph print by Gamy, mounted, framed and glazed. (101cm x 58cm). “Vision d’avenir” (bottom right) appears to be a publicity poster for the “Office d’Aviation, 3 Avenue de l’Opera”(bottom left) and depicts a group of gentlefolk sitting in, or standing near their luxury motorcar (, gazing at a technological wonderland comprising an early dirigible, a Bleriot XI monoplane, an unidentified monoplane, a Curtis type biplane, and (oddly) a Motorboat called “Wolseley” flying the White Ensign. Signature is lower right and reads “Gamy” No copyright nor date is visible. Redwood moulded frame with gilt inner. GC with strong colours. See Plate 3
“Zeppelin” Hand coloured lithograph print by E Montaut, mounted, framed and glazed. (101cm x 56cm). The title “Zeppelin” is at bottom right. The lithograph shows LZ3 flying at speed up a lake under a sunset. Startled herons are scattering in the path of the giant flying machine, while ruined castles on each peak catch the last of the day’s fading light. No copyright or date is visible. Signature to lower right. Redwood moulded frame with gilt inner. GC although the strong flaming sunset has been muted by time and exposure. See Plate 4

“En Visite” Hand coloured lithograph print by E Montaut, framed 88cm x 47cm. Ernest Montaut (1879-1909) was a French artist who built his reputation as an illustrator of the early machine age, documenting early automobile and air races; he is credited with creating artistic techniques such as speed lines and foreshortening which are still used by artists today to give the impression of speed and movement. After his death, the Montaut studio was run by his wife Marguerite, who signed the works “Gamy”. “En Visite” depicts a Hirondelle Renault below the French Dirigible “Clement Bayard”. See Plate 4
