Henry Leonidas Rolfe's good friend Alfred Jardine, the great Victorian pike angler, called him simply 'The Fish-Painter'. Another friend, the leading fish biologist of the day, Frank Buckland, described him as 'The Landseer of Fishes', and the artist described himself somewhat self-deprecatingly as 'The Scaly Painter'.

Three Centuries of British Angling Prints, Creel Press, 2010, nos. 215-216⁂ "Rob o' the Trows" was the well known Tweed professional, Rob Kerss (possibly Kerse), who was fisherman to Lieut.-General Sir Thomas Brisbane of Makersta (now Makerstoun) on the River Tweed, above Kelso. He was called 'Rob o' the Trows' after a stretch of the river on the Makerstoun water that was also the name of a small village where he probably lived. He is said to have been well known to everyone who fished the middle Tweed in the early-to-middle 19th century. He was born about 1770 and died age 79 in 1849. Thomas Tod Stoddart recalls him in the autobiographical sketch he wrote for Songs of the Seasons, Kelso, 1881.

First World War Recruitment Poster, lithograph, small pin holes to corners, short repaired tears, poster measuring c.730 x 480mm, Hill, Siffken & co., 1914.⁂ While many expected the First World War to be 'over by Christmas', the Secretary of State for War, Field Marshal Lord Kitchener, realised the conflict would be long and on an unprecedented scale. He realised that Britain would have to create a mass army for the first time and appealed for volunteers for his 'New Armies' in August 1914. Recruitment officers were sent to towns, cities, factories and clubs. Propaganda posters were placed all over the country to persuade men to sign up.
