Morier (James Justinian, Sir) The Adventures of Hajji Baba of Ispahan, first edition, 3 vol., 7 lithograph plates, occasional light marking, contemporary half-calf, spines defective and joints cracked, extremities and covers scuffed, 8vo, 1824.⁂ A unique set of illustrated first editions; no other first editions or early copies with illustrations appear to be recorded. The presence of 7 plates in vol. 2 suggests an intention to issue an illustrated edition, seemingly then subsequently abandoned. It is possible the plates may be after sketches by the author, himself an amateur artist, and an equivalent illustration density across the whole narrative would have resulted in several hundred plates.
