EVA TANGUAYPersonality One Sheet (28" x 41.75"); Stone LithoVery Fine- on Linen Morgan Litho, c.1912This is the sole known copy of an exciting one-sheet for the former star. It is reported that the poster was discovered in a trunk containing Tanguay's possessions, which were sold many years ago. This exquisite stone lithograph poster features the stunning and lively Canadian singer and entertainer, known as "the girl who made vaudeville famous." Produced by J. Morgan & Co. of Cleveland, the poster exhibited border wear, including small chips and creases. It has undergone linen-backing and professional restoration to correct general fold and cross-fold wear, with the borders skillfully airbrushed. The poster serves as a magnificent tribute to the celebrated beauty who captivated the entertainment industry.Audiences had never seen anyone quite like Eva Tanguay before. She was known as the "I Don't Care Girl." Her performances were described as bold, exuberant, outrageous, and flamboyant, capturing the attention of newspapers all over the world. At one point, she was even arrested on stage for breaking the "Sunday Law" by "dancing indecently." Eva's carefree attitude made her stand out from other touring performers of her time, and her striking appearance, wild red curly hair, and elaborate costumes matched her larger-than-life personality. She was the one who wrote the song "I Don't Care," which could arguably be called her best hit. Later, she transitioned into vaudeville and headlined at F. Ziegfeld, Jr.'s Revue on the Follies of 1909 at the famous Palace in New York. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, September 12th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on September 13th.
