English HAMMERED SILVER COINS, Kings of All England, Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, trefoil quadrilateral type, Canterbury, Rudcarl, rev RVDCARL ON CENT, 0.94g (Freeman 133; SCBI -; BMC 60; N 817). Very fine and very rare. ex R C Lockett, 26-27 April 1960, lot 3791 (part) Freeman only recorded three examples of this type and moneyer: the specimens in the British Museum and the Dresden State Arts Collection, and the present coin.
