COMMEMORATIVE MEDALS, British Historical Medals, Archbishop Sancroft and the Seven Bishops, Silver Medal, 1688, by Daniel Warou, copying George Bower, bust of Sancroft right, wearing cap and robes, rev named medal portraits of the bishops around that of the Bishop of London, plain edge, 51mm (MI 623/38; Eimer 288, note; Fearon, “Seven Bishops on Trial”, The Antique Collector, July 1987, fig.17). Nearly extremely fine, some light scuffing, extremely rare. The busts depict Henry Compton (London), in centre; Francis Turner (Ely); Thomas Ken (Bath and Wells); Sir John Trelawney (Bristol); Thomas White (Peterborough); John Lake (Chichester) and William Lloyd (St Asaph). This medal is a close copy of, though considerably rarer than, Bower’s medal. Warou was a Swedish medallist working in Dresden at this time.

Collection of Dresden (some pieces A/F) and other pieces Condition Report: Over 50% of the pieces have some level of damage or repair. The small jug in the middle of the main picture seems to be in good condition commensurate with age, although some of the gilting has worn off. It has some very mild scuffing that is obviously quite old. The blue and white stripped vase is in good condition commensurate with age.
§ Henry Sanders (British, 1918-1992) Giraffes signed lower right "H Sanders" oil on board, unframed 61 x 51cm (24 x 20in) Henry Sanders was born in Dresden, Germany as Helmuth Salomon, before changing his name after settling in London. He studied at the Hornsey College of Art from 1935 - 1939, and again from 1945, under Russell Reeve and John Moody. His work embodies the bold and urgent style of the German Expressionists, and takes influences most notably from the landscapes of France, Italy and Spain. His work has been exhibited widely in solo and group shows throughout the UK and internationally, with his work being included in the permanent collection of the Ben Uri Society. He is quoted as saying he is "striving, through my figurative art, to say something about the timelessness of the human condition". Unframed and fine.

Grande tankard in avorio scolpito e montato in rame sbalzato, stile “historismus”, Dresda, fine XIX secolo Alt. cm 44,5, diam. base cm 23, diam. corpo cm 15 All’ interno del corpo, alla base, la scritta a penna indicante l’artefice: A. Schuhboth Gustav, Dresden 25 august, 1866. Nella larga fascia centrale è magistralmente scolpita una scena di battaglia tra cavalieri e fanti abbigliati alla romana, con elmi, loriche e scudi. Il manico presenta un volto di animale fantastico da cui diparte, a doppia curvatura, un elemento a volute barocche. Sulla sommità, a tutto tondo, un altro cavaliere col cavallo in impennata (mancante di mezza zampa anteriore destra e maldestramente re-incollato al contrario). Tutta la montatura, base, collare, coperchio sono in rame sbalzato a volute, fiori, frutti e aquila ad ali aperte. L’oggetto è stato presentato al Corpo forestale dello Stato di Verona, protocollo n° 3925 del 02.06.92, in adempimento alla disposizione CITES, Convenzione di Washington, L.07.02.1992, n° 150.
