Autograph – Art and Architecture – Robert and James Adam document signed by both being a lease to Peter Day carpenter for a piece of land on the north side of Devonshire Street lying between ground let to Stephen Morris and William Adam. Document on vellum incorporating a diagram of the plot of land soiled to outer but clean inside. Signatures of Robert and James Adam the celebrated architects of the mid to late 18th c are rare.
Art and Artists – autograph – Sir Philip Burne Jones series of original sketches by Burne-Jones in a group of autograph letters signed to his uncle (by marriage) the equally famous artist Sir Edward Poynter together with the Sotheby sales catalogue of April 24th 1918 in which Poynter’s art collection was sold with ms annotations almost certainly in the hand of Burne-Jones a further catalogue by Christies of the sale of works by Poynter again annotated in ms and probably in the hand of Burne-Jones – also an autograph letter signed by Charlotte Knollys to Poynter thanking him on behalf of Queen Alexandra for explaining his exhibition to the Queen. The sketches in the style of cartoons include representations of Burne-Jones himself and offer a rare opportunity to obtain original work by one of the leading Pre-Raphaelite artists.
Autograph – art and artists – John Singer Sargent fine autograph letter signed to the English artist Sir Edward Poynter dated Boston January 20th 1918 4pp 12mo with autograph envelope. An unusually long and chatty letter reporting on his activities and including reference to the fact that he had just completed a commission to paint the portrait of President Woodrow Wilson. Letters of Sargent in which he discusses his art are uncommon.

My time at the Castle passed very delightfully...’ Joseph is best known for his statue of William Wilberforce.
Four antique walking canes late 19th / early 20th century, comprising an ebony cane with ivory tip and silver plated knop modelled as a leopard fighting a snake, the collar with presentation inscription dated 1867; a bamboo cane with horn handle carved as a mythical beast with open mouth, ivory tongue and red cut stone eyes; an ebonised cane with white metal eagle`s head handle with glass eyes, one missing; and a Malacca cane with Continental Art Nouveau style silver handle. Charles Robinson R. I. (1870-1937) The Madonna and Child watercolour, heightened with gilt, signed in pencil 18.25 x 5.25in. (46.5 x 13.5cm.) * Charles Robinson was the brother of William Heath Robinson and was a prolific illustrator, illustrating over one hundred books during his career. His work was strongly influenced by the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts traditions, of which this is a classic example, displaying highly stylised form and distinctive use of contrasting black and gilt areas within the work.
