His paintings have won him a plethora of awards at national exhibitions. From June to September she visits the Highlands & Islands, where she sketches and takes hundreds of photographs. In the winter months she paints almost exclusively with a palette knife in her studio, where she tries to capture these lonely places. Her style has been influenced by French Impressionism and by the Scottish Colourists, particularly Peploe. With these influences she has developed a personal style generally using multiple layers of paint. She considers herself a very fortunate person, spending her time doing what she enjoys most.
* WILLIAM ROBBIE (SCOTTISH 1887 - 1967), CAIRNHILL, ST FERGUS, BY PETERHEAD mixed media on paper, signed framed and under glass image size 44cm x 55cm, overall size 46cm x 58cm Note: William Robbie was one of thirteen children born to a farmworker and his wife in the Parish of Old Deer (Buchan, Aberdeenshire). Since then his works have been included in numerous public and private collections. His work deals with both narrative and nature, sometimes subverting one or the other in order to advance his artistic practise. His insistence on invention, freedom and risk affirms continuity in his aesthetic spirit. He uses a network of codes, symbols and expressive techniques which play off his collective memory and familiarity of everyday objects and culture from his childhood and juxtaposes them with present day reality. In so doing he embodies them with a new philosophical discourse. Andrew’s work now features in many significant public and private collections and is in the permanent collections of Glasgow's Kelvingrove, Gallery of Modern Art and The People's Palace.

CATRIONA MILLAR, PAULA oil on canvas, initialled, titled and dated 2024 versounframedoverall size 41cm x 31cm Note: Catriona Millar's work takes its inspiration from the stories that lie at the heart of the human condition, and the sparkle of a narrative behind the eyes of her subjects hints at everything from longing to melancholy. Her work often juxtaposes human characters with a variety of animal confidants, with some seeming physically present in the composition while others take on a talismanic quality. Born in Glasgow, Catriona Millar studied at Harrogate School of Art and Grays School of Art, Aberdeen. Since the success of her sell-out 2005 degree show she has exhibited across the UK including the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh. In October 2006 she came to the attention of Charles Saatchi with her first solo exhibition at the Dundas Street Gallery, Edinburgh. Catriona Millar now lives and paints in the southeast of England. * HANNAH FRANK (SCOTTISH 1908 - 2008), THE TALE WAS WILD AND DREAR pen and ink on paper, signed and dated 1927mounted, framed and under glassimage size 41cm x 31cm, overall size 68cm x 56cm Comment: This is the original pen & ink artwork by Hannah Frank. Provenance: Private collection, Cambridge.Note: Since McTear's first promoted Hannah Frank's spectacular work in 2011, the prices for her ever more rare signed prints have continued to rise with many current prices being more than five times higher than those achieved barely a decade ago. The latest UK auction record figure for a single signed lithograph was most recently achieved (twice) in our auction on 24th October 2021 and now stands at £820 (hammer). Note 2: Hannah Frank was the last living link to the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau period. She studied at the Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University in the 1920`s and her haunting pen and ink drawings have been exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Royal Glasgow Institute. A series of lithographs of some of her 90 drawings were made in the 1960's and again in the 1980's to satisfy the demand for her work after exhibitions in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Only a relatively few of these prints were hand signed (in pencil) by Hannah and it's understood that only one print was ever editioned (numbered) in a conventional manner. A major exhibition at the Royal Glasgow Institute in 2006 brought her work to a new generation of admirers and received considerable press coverage. Her work toured for five years in the UK and the USA culminating in an exhibition at Glasgow University which opened on her 100th birthday 23rd August 2008. After her death, she was awarded a posthumous Honorary Doctorate at Glasgow University and Glasgow City Council`s Lord Provost`s Award For Art (2009).
* EUAN MCGREGOR PAI, WINTER STORM BEACH acrylic on paper, signed, titled label verso framed and under glass image size 34cm x 39cm, overall size 48cm x 53cm Note: An award winning artist, Euan McGregor lives and works in West Kilbride on the north Ayrshire coast. Euan’s roots are in printmaking, giving his work an emphasis on mark-making and shape. He has an interest in all things Modernist and in particular, mid 20th century British landscape painting. His influences include Hockney, Piper and the St Ives school in Cornwall. His recent work has been inspired by some of our iconic malt whisky distilleries. Frequently drawn to marginal and fringe spaces in his work, he says “I love the fact that these structures often inhabit the wildest of places, so there’s a contradiction of sorts but they work well together, especially as the product is so synonymous with its geography. The buildings themselves are industrial cathedrals with specific shapes integral to the whisky-making process.” Euan’s work has a strong sense of emotion, shape and subject, using his printmaking skills to give the illusion of depth by adding texture in thinly applied layers. His work is striking, yet subtle in its makeup. He is a recipient of the RGI Cuthbert Artist Award and Glasgow Art Club Fellowship Award and in 2015, he became a Diplomate of the Paisley Arts Institute and has received several awards from the Royal Glasgow Institute. He currently teaches Art & Design in a secondary school in Renfrewshire and lives with his young family in North Ayrshire. France and Italy and exhibited widely, especially in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Newcastle. PHILIP RASKIN (SCOTTISH b. 1947) A TOUCH OF ARGYLL acrylic on panel, signed, titled versoframedimage size 42cm x 56cm, overall size 54cm x 68cmArtist's label verso.Note: Born in 1947, Philip studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s. However, due to his father's untimely death, he had to postpone his career in art and left art school to enter the business world where he stayed for the next 30 years. For 20 of those years, he was the well known proprietor of The Inn on the Green, a celebrated jazz restaurant, in Glasgow. During this time, he maintained his contact with the world of art however, by running a schedule of art exhibitions and openings within the venue. Upon leaving the restaurant in the 1990s, Philip returned to his easel and brushes and since then has become a successful full time artist with broad appeal. He now lives and works from his studio just outside Glasgow. Philip's unique style is instantly recognisable combining a heavy impasto application of the paint alongside more delicate and sensitive brush strokes. Focussing mainly on landscape painting, his inspiration comes from the islands of the west coast of Scotland with Barra, Islay, Jura and Arran being some of his favourite locations. He deftly captures the essence and light of the landscapes through his work, the rugged shorelines, dramatic seascapes and ever changing skies. "I tend to paint very private places for the viewer to own and enjoy. No people, no houses, no telegraph poles; just expansive skies, mist tumbling on a distant hillside and a silence broken only by lapping water and gulls ascending".

CATRIONA MILLAR, PRINCESS AND FREDDIE oil on canvas, initialledunframedoverall size 41cm x 31cm Note: Catriona Millar's work takes its inspiration from the stories that lie at the heart of the human condition, and the sparkle of a narrative behind the eyes of her subjects hints at everything from longing to melancholy. * GRAHAM MURRAY (SCOTTISH 1907 - 1987), UNTITLED mixed media on board, signedframedimage size 51cm x 76cm, overall size 67cm x 94cm Note: Graham Murray was born in Glasgow and studied at Glasgow School of Art. He lived and painted in France, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany and England until 1938, when he returned to Glasgow. During the war years he taught in Clydebank, and here he first made the acquaintance of Stanley Spencer, who was appointed official war artist on Clydeside. The two artists became good friends, and Spencer was a frequent visitor to Murray's spacious flat in Landsdowne Crescent, and to the Pewter Pot. Murray exhibited with Leicester Galleries and Reid and Lefevre in London and with the Portico Library in Manchester. In Scotland he exhibited with the Greenock Arts Guild, and with the Royal Scottish Academy (RSA) and Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI). His futurist cityscapes marked his individuality; and when he left Glasgow in 1985 to live in Berkshire with his second wife, his landscapes and flower studies were a complete sell-out at a farewell exhibition. He is represented in the Art Gallery & Museum, Kelvingrove, and in numerous private collections in Britain, Canada, Switzerland, the USA and Australia.

Her bold, exuberant and vibrantly joyful landscapes have led to sell-out shows in Scotland, London and the rest of the UK as well as exhibiting further afield in America, Russia and Sweden. Working in oils, her paintings use bold, vigorous, rhythmical strokes of impasto paint combined with delicate brushwork. This gives an exciting texture to the paint surface along with a sense of abstraction, which reflects nature’s contrasts and delicate harmonies. However, whilst the work is very painterly, it also has a strong sense of place. Winner of the 1999 MacRoberts Open Prize, the 2010 House for An Art Lover Award, and the Glasgow Art Club Award in 2016, Judith is also a member of the Paisley Art Institute, and a regular exhibitor at the Royal Glasgow Institute and Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. * BARBARA BALMER RSA RSW RGI (SCOTTISH 1929 - 2017), TULIPS IN JUG watercolour on paper, signedmounted, framed and under glassimage size 52cm x 69cm, overall size 84cm x 101cm Note: Barbara Balmer had a singular vision. Her pictures have a curious, if not surreal, edge. In her instantly recognisable style, she took the everyday and simplified it into shapes and patterns that she filled with subtle gradations of colour. Born in Birmingham, she moved to Scotland by way of a scholarship from Coventry School of Art that took her to Edinburgh College of Art (1949-1953). Her contemporaries are a roll call of familiar names of Scottish art: Elizabeth Blackadder, John Houston and Frances Walker to name a few. Balmer, however, eschewed the expressive brushwork and vibrant palette of the time and developed her own unique visual vocabulary. Throughout her long career, spanning more than five decades, she was twice selected to exhibit at the John Moores Exhibition in Liverpool, and had solo shows at the Richard Demarco Gallery and the Open Eye Gallery in Edinburgh, the Scottish Arts Council Touring Exhibitions and at the Fine Art Society in Edinburgh. Barbara taught at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen between 1970 and 1980 and held a retrospective exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery which travelled to Dundee, Lincoln and Coventry. Her work is included in many public and private collections including, The Royal Collection, The Scottish National Portrait Gallery (Portrait of Richard Demarco), The City Art Centre, Edinburgh, Leicester City Museum, Aberdeen and Stirling Universities, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Birmingham, Perth, Dundee and Lincoln Art Galleries. Seven of her paintings were used as dust jackets by Virago for the Modern Classics series and she was an elected member of the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute and the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. In Barbara's obituary in The Herald, Richard Demarco wrote: "I hesitate to define her as an English, Scottish or indeed British artist. Her particular art must be viewed as belonging to the great and enduring tradition associated with the latest manifestations of European painting in this age of modern art".

Influenced by so-called naïve art and the work of L S Lowry, Yates' work incorporated bold colours, loose brushwork, and child-like abstractions. Often, he layered paint on top of the canvas to create a thick, textured surface, giving his paintings a sculptural quality. Born on July 25, 1922 in Urmston, England, Yates fought in the Second World War alongside his twin brother, who was killed at the Battle of Arnheim. After the war, he began painting the Manchester cityscape in his free time and became well known in the local art scene, working alongside painter Lowry. Yates moved to Cornwall in 1968, where he began painting rocky beach landscapes and scenes of village life. He gained national attention after presenting his work at the 1985 exhibition “St Ives 1939– 64” at the Tate Gallery in London. A decade later, the artist moved to Rancon, France, painting the local landscape for the remainder of his artistic career. Yates died on July 7, 2008 in England at the age of 85. PHILIP RASKIN (SCOTTISH b. 1947) HEBRIDEAN HARMONY acrylic on board, signed, titled versoframedimage size 47cm x 77cm, overall size 59cm x 89cmArtist's label verso.Note: Born in 1947, Philip studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s.

Between 15th June and 28th August 2023 at the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow he held his first show in 14 years: Cut & Run featuring stencils and more from his career on the street. “I’ve kept these stencils hidden away for years, mindful they could be used as evidence in a charge of criminal damage.
