'The End of Elfintown', by Jane Barlow, illustrated by Laurence Housman, London: Macmillan & Co., 1894, decorative gilt cloth, a.e.g., eight plates plus further illustrations to beginning and end of each chapter in the intricate Art Nouveau style. Pencil inscription/signature to front free endpaper: 'From Laurence Houseman 1920' (vendor's father knew Houseman personally).
Collection of storyboard sequences and titles relating to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, many bearing 'MGM Art Department' labels to verso. To include an original watercolour concept storyboard for the main credit sequence of 'A Shot in the Dark', 1964 (the second Pink Panther film, starring Peter Sellers), and a charcoal production sketch for 'Homecoming', 1948 (romantic drama starring Clark Gable), bearing 'Movie Memorabilia' Certificate of Authenticity to verso. Others are printed designs for use in various productions. Hollywood/Movie/Design interest. Provenance: Vendor acquired from the collection of Patrick Payne.
Arts and Crafts interest: Three original ink & watercolour designs for door "finger plates", produced in 1892 at the Municipal School of Art, Margaret Street, Birmingham. Evocative of the era, reminiscent of designers such as William Morris. Together with an accompanying letter, addressed to the designer and dated 1st November 1892, confirming that the designs were purchased by John Franklin-Adams of Lloyd's of London. Also a section taken from a contemporary publication, published June 1892, discussing the designs as part of a feature on 'Furniture and Decoration'. To include a preliminary pencil & ink sketch for the designs, plus a smaller design for a competition in 1888. Vendor believes the designs were eventually used within Buckingham Palace.

A very rare Art Deco jade green coloured GPO 200 series desk telephone, dated 1935, of pyramid form with an alphabet dial and matching green braided handset cord, the base marked PL '35/234 No.162 F, height 16cm (s.d)Notes: The Art Deco 200 series telephones of the 1930's were issued in standard black bakelite. Affluent customers could however order coloured models which attracted substantially higher rental rates. The jade green model is considered to be the rarest of all.
