ELMER ELEPHANT, Lord Admiral Nelly, This design was inspired by the great East Anglian Naval Commander, Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. The English hero had strong links to Ipswich; with a country home at Roundwood House, he was an honorary freeman of the town and, in 1800, was made high steward of Ipswich. Depicting ‘Nelly’ in full naval uniform complete with medals, there is a vintage nautical feel to the design. A map of the seven seas adorns the rear of the sculpture featuring several ships including HMS Victory - Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar, Artist: Donna Newman, Donna Newman is a freelance mural artist working in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, where she seeks to inspire young people by transforming their learning environments with her vibrant artwork. Trained as a painter at Coventry University, Donna responds with creativity and flair to her client's specifications producing original designs in a huge variety of subjects. She is also an experienced painter of sculpture trails working closely with Wild in Art on several commissions.
