She often painted scenes of Israel and Jordan as well as the Himalayan mountains. Stephenson exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in the 1890s as well as the Walker Galleries in London. In 1919, she was awarded an OBE by King George V for her contribution to the Essex Regiment Prisoners of War Fund following the First World War.
