Art and Artists – Ian Fenwick three original cartoons by Fenwick two with autograph notes signed by Fenwick dated January 1944 shortly before he was heroically killed. Each executed in line drawing with wash colour. Ian Fenwick was both a fine cartoonist a member of the original SAS and a war hero. A Major in the 1st Battalion SAS he was killed in action in June 1944 during Operation Gain – the clandestine sabotage mission south of Paris aimed at blowing up railway lines. He was killed in an attempt to rescue his men who he thought had been captured by the Germans. He attempted to take on a German column single handed but was killed instantly when his Jeep was ambushed. In civilian life he was a noted cartoonist working for Punch and other magazines. Original artwork by Fenwick is rare and highly sought after. A fine collection of 50 original cartoons by Fenwick are to be seen in the Royal Green Jacket Museum in Winchester.
Oriental Art – Chinese Bone a fine example of a Chinese Bone book comprising 10 panels each exquisitely engraved on both sides depicting a variety of erotic drawings which are nevertheless very tastefully executed. Date unknown overall size approx 9x31cm. Rare.
Autograph – Art and Artists – Antonio Canova founder of the modern Italian classic school of sculpture document signed dated 1815 being a permit issued to Mr Page to allow him to study at the Musei Pontifici. Partially printed document with ms insertions 1p folio good condition.
WWII – Adolf Hitler copy of the Grosse Deutsche Kunsausstellung [the catalogue of the Munich exhibition of modern art] for 1941 signed on inside cover by Adolf Hitler. Hitler’s signature appears next to the photographic reproduction of one of the portraits of him featured in the exhibition
Attributed to Hitler study of a rose watercolour on art paper signed A Hitler 1908’ approx 7x5ins. A statement from the vendor says that this was liberated along with a collection of further watercolours by Company Sgt Maj W ( Willie’) J McKenna the Manchester Regt in Essen Germany in 1945 and sold direct to the present vendor.

Twelve copies were made for The Art Union as prizes. One example was shown in the Paris Exhibition 1900.
A Japanese Lacquer Inro, signed and sealed Toshihide (circa 1757-1833), Edo period, of five sections depicting fish beneath water in Togidashi on a roiro ground, the interior also with roiro compartments and gold fundame edges, 7.5cm long A similar example by Toshihide with minogame beneath water on a roiro ground was sold at Christie`s New York, Japanese and Korean Art, 29 March 2005, lot 202 for $4,800. Examples of Toshihide`s work can also be found in the Baur Collection and in Koln Museum, ref: The Index of Inro Artists, E A Wrangham, Alnwick, 1955, p.305.
