A large Chinese famille rose figure of Budai and children, mid 20th century, height 28cmCONDITION: Structurally good, although uppermost muse (red jacket) with tiny chip to top of gilded flower, age probably post-war.Provenance - Alfred Theodore Arber-Cooke (c.1910-1993); thence by family descent. Arber-Cooke lived in Carmarthenshire, Wales and was an avid collector of European & Asian works of art and an author of the History of Llandovery. He was collecting from the 1940s to the 1980s.
A Chinese doucai 'dragon' jar and cover, Qianlong seal mark, late 19th/early 20th century, the ovoid body painted with two scaly dragons chasing 'flaming pearls' amidst ruyi shaped clouds and scrolling flames, all between a lappeted border encircling the foot and a 'bajixiang' border above a row of ruyi heads at the shoulder, rising to a short neck, the flat topped cover painted with a flaming pearl and ruyi shaped clouds, the base inscribed with an underglaze-blue reign mark, 20cm high, neck broken and gluedCONDITION: The neck is broken in several sections and messily re-glued. A 1930's Art Deco leather travelling toilet case, containing eleven silver mounted jars, mirror, and brushes, Adie Bros. Birmingham, 1935/6.CONDITION: Two of the jars are later replacement as the lids do not fit. Dent to handle of mirror. Minor chip to two of the glass jars. Dings to the brush mounts and one is split also. One of the leather fittings is damaged.
