A George V silver Chalice, by Tudor Art Metal & Plating Co., hallmarked London, 1928, the circular cup with knopped stem on a spreading lobed foot, the stem and foot with gadrooned decoration, the foot with applied crucifix, the underside of foot with presentation inscription 'Given by his parents in thanksgiving for the Baptism of Bernard Harold Michael Palmer, October 12 1929', 16cm high, approx weight 9.2ozt. Note; Dr. Bernard Palmer was owner and editor of the Anglican Newspaper 'Church Times' from 1968 until his retirement in 1969.
Brian Walker (British, 1926-2020), Dunkeswell, oil on board, signed, dated 1947, 35.5cm x 45.75cm, framed. Born in Somerset in 1926, Brian Walker enrolled in a correspondence art course with Pitman?s Press aged 14, and joined the Bristol Evening World aged 16, where he drew cartoons and war maps. Serving in the RAF photo reconnaissance unit from 1944 to 1947, he went on to study at the West of England College of Art and won a Punch scholarship. His comics career began in the 1950s with cartoons for Cycling Weekly, followed by work for magazines such as Farmers Weekly and Punch, moving on to drawing comics in the 1960s, drawing over 700 pages of ?Smasher? for The Dandy. Over 50 years, Brian?s work appeared in other comics including The Beano and Whizzer and Chips, in humour-led publications such as Punch, serious magazines such as The Countryman, and in more than 80 books. He is reckoned to have drawn 5,400 pages worth of comic strips and illustrations by the time he retired in 2009.
