Late 19th/Early 20th Century Chinese Su Embroidery, half seated portrait of a lady worked in monochrome silks, wearing a pendant with Chinese motifs, in a floral silk embroidered mount and ebonsied frame with inlaid decoration, 70cm by 100cm Su embroidery is the embroidery created around the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu, China, it is one of the oldest embroidery techniques in the world and one of the most representative type of art in Chinese embroidery.

Scattered craquelure to paint surface, particularly to flesh tones and to darker pigments in the background, consistent with a work of this age. Other than a few minor, scattered surface abrasions the surface is generally sound. Ultraviolet light reveals an even varnish and a few lines of infilling to the lady's face, to her dress, and a scattered areas to background.
