An Art Deco style bronzed spelter figural table modelled as a young lady arching her back and holding aloft a peach-tinted globe, raised on a stepped square section base, height 61cm (af). CONDITION REPORT: The globe has unfortunately got a rather significant hairline crack running through a large portion of the body of it. The largest stepped section of the base has countersunk holes drilled through in opposing corners, suggesting it was previously mounted to a larger base. Needs rewiring.

Thence by descent.Sir Edward Buller (1764-1824) was part of an illustrious West Country family, who joined the Royal Navy in 1777, finishing his naval career as an admiral in 1812, having served in the Americn War of Independence and the Napoleonic Wars. He was made member of parliament for East Looe in 1802, holding his seat until 1820. He died in 1824 at his seat, Trenant Park, which he inherited from his brother, John Buller, who died in 1807, a year after he bought the estate for £15,000.The Treise Morshead family also owned Trenant Park, the second baronet (1783-1828) being one such.Thomas Rowlandson started at the R.A. Schools in 1772, winning a silver medal in 1777.The following 20 years he toured France, Italy, Germany and Holland, as well as Britain. He is perhaps best known for his satirical works, but his talents extended to portraiture, marine subjects and, as is shown here, landscapes. Examples of his work are held by most British Galleries and Museums, including the Ashmolean, Victoria and Albert Museum, British Museum and the Birmingham Art Gallery, to name just a few.A few tiny scattered surface spots (probably foxing), including the sky.Some general fading. A diagonal 2cm blemish in the top left corner; possibly a repaired tear.
