William Maxwell Reekie (British 1869-1948) "Just before the Five Minute Gun" Signed and dated 1930, titled on artist's label verso, oil on board. 28.5 x 59cm (framed 38 x 68.5cm) Exhibited: Manchester City Art Gallery 1932 Liverpool Walker Art Gallery 1932. The painting is in good, restored condition. Under UV light there is evidence of extensive cleaning and overpainting. The varnish has yellowed in areas and the surface appears to be slightly grubby. There is craquelure across the surface of the painting. The painting is ornately reframed but not glazed. The frame has some minor knocks and losses.

Provenance: from the private collection of David Armitage, former conservator to the Department of Eastern Art at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, between 1970 and 1999.
