Robert Organ (b.1933) - 'Sparkle of Light on the Sea', signed and dated 2001, also inscribed with the title verso 'Sudden Sparkle of Light', oil on canvas, 35.75" x 29" **The painting also bears the remains of an exhibition label to the frame **Provenance: Black Swan Guild Ltd. The original purchase price being £3150 in 2002. **The artist was born in Somerset and studied at The Royal West of England College of Art, Bristol and at the Slade School of Fine Art under the tutelage of George Sweet and Claude Rogers. He moved to Cornwall in 1957 and taught painting at Falmouth School of Art alongside his old Slade friend, Francis Hewlett. He later became interested in architecture and the preservation of ancient buildings. After several years, he turned his attention to painting full-time and, in 1978, became artist in residence at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter, who hold a number of large paintings in their permanent collection. He has held numerous exhibitions at Beaux Arts in Bath, the Newlyn Orion Gallery in Cornwall and has a particular longstanding relationship with the dealers Browse & Darby of Cork Street, London. Benn Catt (b.1970) - 'Cold Under Foot', signed Catt, also inscribed with the artist's name, the title and dated '04 (2004), numbered 5 verso, oil or acrylic, possibly on paper or card, 17.25" x 17.25" **The artist was born in London, he studied sculpture at Newcastle and moved to Cornwall several years ago, primarily working around Penzance in a granite shed at the bottom of his garden, his work captures the elements of varying weather conditions during the changing seasons and the rugged Penwith peninsula. Mark Baring (20th/21st century) - Figures in a Boat with another Figure waving from a cottage on the headland, signed and dated '76 (1976), oil on canvas, 20" x 24" unframed **The artist was born in Sanderstead, Surrey. Louis Turpin (b.1947) - 'A Place for Butterflies', signed, also inscribed verso with the title, oil on canvas, 24" x 16" **Provenance: Beaux Arts, York Street, Bath BA1 1NG, 1985. Sold together with a copy of the original receipt the price being £300, a copy of a press cutting from the Daily Telegraph giving biographical details on the painter and his long association with both art and music. He attended Falmouth Art School and specialised in painting and film, he lives in East Sussex and his near neighbour is Paul McCartney, his passion for both art, music and horticulture is both exciting and inspiring. The artist has exhibited at The Royal Academy, The National Portrait Gallery, and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters, he has a great many pictures in public and private collections and regularly shows at The Fosse Gallery, The Rye Art Gallery, and The Bohun Gallery in Henley-on-Thames. An Art Deco wall light, reputedly from the Criterion Cinema, Hull, the gold painted steel body of stepped fan shaped form, the centre pierced with a silhouette study of a female dancer with mottled fawn backing, flanked by two panels with mottled purple and fawn backing, encasing a single light fitting, 40 cm high, 41 cm wide.
An Art Deco polished stone desk stand, the serpentine oblong base with pen wells and central chrome letter rack flanked by two cuboid inkwells with oversized chrome hinges 30cm wide and a late 19th century French gilt brass and porcelain urn shaped vase adapted as an electric table lamp, impressed P.H. Mourey 37cm high including light fitting. (2)
A Paragon Art Deco part tea service pattern, No.G1771, the tea pot inscribed "Replica of Service made for HM the Queen" comprising tea pot, eleven cups, twelve saucers, eight tea plates, two sandwich plates and sugar bowl, each with an all over pattern of primroses above a border of leaves. (35)
A Scottish art glass bowl, decorated with yellow swirls within an amethyst border 24 cm diameter, a Benny Motzfeldt Norway posy vase of globular form with amber mottling on a speckled amethyst ground, marked Plus BM Norway 9 cm high, a Venetian glass perfume bottle with opaque white and pink swirls and gilded twisted leaf stopper 11 cm high and two art glass vases. An early 20th century set of eight Chinese carved ivory figurines, depicting the Eight Immortals, each mounted on an ebonised carved hardwood base, average height 12 cm, (8). The Eight Immortals were revered by Daoists and are believed to be figures of prosperity and longevity. They represented eight factors of Chinese daily life; men and women, old and young, rich and poor, noble and lowly. The stories of the Immortals were traditionally very popular, temples were dedicated to them and they are frequently represented in Chinese art.
