A brass ball of mistletoe four branch hanging light in the Art Nouveau taste, set with glass beads, on large hanging hook, 40 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Unknown if working. Some of the "berries" are loose and there appear to be a couple missing (ie empty wires). In need of a good clean. Some damage throughout, particularly in the areas where it has been pinned using the brass holders. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use. See images for further detail.

One has a rough mark / slightly heavy scratch to its shoulder area. PAIR OF OAK, LARCH, AND EBONY MARQUETRY SLATE-TOPPED CABINETS, ATTRIBUTED TO GEORGE BULLOCK EARLY 19TH CENTURY in the Greek Revival style, the grey slate tops above long frieze drawers and pairs of ebony moulded panel doors inlaid with stylised palmettes. anthemions and flower heads, the corners marked with bullseye roundels, enclosing shelved interiors, on bracket feet raised on integrated plinth bases (2) 85cm wide, 97cm high, 45cm deep Note: Several cabinets associated with Bullock are decorated with the same pattern on the door panels and further details are given in Clive Wainwright ed., George Bullock, Cabinet-maker, 1988, pp. 65-66, cat. no. 4 and fig. 24, pp. 104-5, cat. nos. 40-1. The cabinet is also typical of his furniture with its moulded top and heavy plinth. For an example attributed to George Bullock with a similar raised plinth, see Frances Collard Regency Furniture, pg. 112; and for an example with matching inlay to the doors, also attributed to Bullock and supplied to Blair Atholl, Perthshire, in 1817, see the same publication, pg. 134. A cabinet with similarities to the present pair and with identical marquetry to the doors is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, Access. W.32:1 to 33-1979. The design for the marquetry is among a collection of tracings, originally bound in a scrapbook inscribed 'Tracings by Thomas Wilkinson from the designs of the late Mr. George Bullock 1820' (Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, unbound no.240). The tracing for this particular design is dated August 1816 (unbound number 240).

SIENA, CIRCA 1870 in the Renaissance style, the hinged cover with a raised and carved figure of a recumbent Cupid above richly carved panels with gryphons, insects, and foliate scrolls, opening to a red velvet lined interior; the sides panels with egg-and-dart and gadrooned borders enclosing carved panels with gryphons, masks and a central roundel with a pair of lovebirds, and raised on carved paw feet, signed ‘GOSI e QUERCI’ on left panel 43cm wide, 35cm high, 30cm deep Note: Gosi and Querci were both pupils of Pietro Giusti (1822-78), who carved the casket, dated 1857, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is based on the cassone by Antonio Barli (1453-1516), now in the Museo Civici, Siena, see H. A rare and early Doccia teapot, c.1750-52, the fluted baluster form transfer printed in underglaze blue with putti at various pursuits, including playing on a seesaw, after Jacques Stella's Jeux des Enfants, beneath a stampino flower sprays and leaves, the grooved spout with a large acanthus leaf at the base, the cover lacking, 21cm across.Provenance: the Mavis Watney collection.Illustrated: J V G Mallet, Transfer Printing in England and Italy, Transactions of the English Ceramic Circle, Volume 22 (2011). This teapot provided the evidence to back up previously made claims that Doccia combined the art of transfer printing with that of stencilling a stampa.
