MARGARET MORRIS (1891-1980) No.3 Rhapsody 1919 mixed media 21cm x 12cm Provenance: Cyril Gerber Fine Art label verso, Margaret Morris Centenary Exhibition 1991 Note: The daughter of the artist William Bright Morris, Margaret Morris studied ballet and became a successful dancer-actor-manager. In 1913 in Paris she met J.D. Fergusson and they later married. Between the south of France and London, the couple met Peploe, Epstein, Lewis and Mackintosh. Settling in Glasgow in 1939 they played a major part in forming the New Art Club and the New Scottish Group of independent painters. A talented painter herself, Morris died in 1980 aged 89. He has been the recipient of a number of awards for his drawings and paintings, and travels the world. His work is in collections in Great Britain, USA, Italy, Australia, the Middle East, Hong Kong, his work is in many corporate collections. Jamieson is Chairman of The Aspect Prize and past President of the Paisley Art Institute. He has exhibited his work in many Art Galleries at home and abroad currently exhibiting at Thompson`s Art Gallery in Marylebone London. Private Scottish Collection.
