He studied art at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. An exhibition in 1950 at Wildenstein & Co., London, introduced Annigoni's work to the English public, with whom he remained popular. He based his style on Leonardo da Vinci and Titian, working in tempera and oil to simulate old-master oils, or pen-and-ink to imitate silverpoint.
