Anonymer Altmeister.: Rebekka und Elizier am Brunnen. Öl auf Lwd., alt doubliert. 1. H. 18. Jh. 60 x 85 cm. Mit feinem Krakelee. Eliezer schenkt der schönen Rebekka am Brunnen Schmuck. Die Geschichte der Rebekka am Brunnen ist eine der Brautwerbung und der Gastfreundschaft. Als Abraham bereits hochbetagt ist, möchte er für seinen Sohn Isaak eine Braut finden. Er schickt seinen treuen Diener Eliezer mit einem Gefolge aus Kamelen nach Nahor, da es keine Frau der Kanaaniter sein sollte. Dort beschwor er Gott, dass die Frau, die ihm und seinen Kamelen am Brunnen zu trinken gebe, die Frau Isaaks werden soll. Es war Abend, als Eliezer ankam, und die Frauen kamen an den Brunnen. Rebekka, die sehr schön und jung war, war diejenige, die dieser Gastfreundschaft nachging. Eliezer schenkt ihr daraufhin Schmuck, einen Nasenring und Bänder für die Arme. Rebekka gibt sich als Enkelin Abrahams Bruder zu erkennen. Sie lässt die Fremden im Zelt ihrer Familie übernachten. Eliezer verrät nun auch sein Anliegen. Rebekka wird Isaaks Frau. D

Neustück, Johann Jakob: (1800 Basel 1867). Der Reisende bei den Klosterbrüdern. Aquarell mit Weißhöhung auf gelblichem Papier. Unten rechts signiert und datiert: J. J. Neustück 1836. Unter Glas gerahmt. 25 x 48 cm (Darstellung); 46 x 69 cm (Rahmen). Dargestellt ist vermutlich Huldrych Zwinglis Ankunft in Kloster Einsiedeln am 14. April 1516, wo er bis 1518 als Leutpriester tätig sein sollte. Der Aufenthalt Zwinglis in Einsiedeln gilt als ein Schlüsselerlebnis zur Manifestation seiner reformatorischen Ideen, da Zwingli dort den Ablasshandel unmittelbar und in seiner ausuferndsten Form miterlebte. Zwingli (1484-1531) wurde später zum Verräter und Erzketzer erklärt und im Zweiten Kappelerkrieg ermordet. Erst 1838, zwei Jahre nach Entstehung dieses Aquarells, wurde ihm in der Schweiz erstmals ein Denkmal errichtet. - Besonders bemerkenswert ist die perspektivisch einwandfrei gelöste Darstellung des ausladenden gotischen Gewölbes, das sich wie ein Baldachin über die Szene spannt. - Der Schweizer Maler und Vedutenmaler Johann Jakob Neustück wurde in Basel geboren und war auch dort ansässig. Er wurde von seinem Vater, dem Maler Maximilian Neustück ausgebildet und lehrte später selbst an der Kunstschule. "Er begeisterte sich für mittelalterliche Kunst und erstellte Aquarellkopien nach Wandgemälden der Basler Kirchen, u.a. der Theodorskirche oder der Martinskirche."
