Mit lithographiertem Titelblatt und zwölf lithographierten Vignetten von Michel Fingesten. Originalhalbpergamentband mit Rückenvergoldung.Exemplar 41 von 90 auf Zandersbütten (Gesamtauflage 120). - Im Druckvermerk von Künstler und Komponist signiert. - »Die zwölf Lieder dieses Werkes erschienen nur in dieser einmaligen Ausgabe. Die Textschrift entwarf E. R. Weiß. Das ganze Werk wurde bei M. W. Lassally in Berlin auf der Handpresse gedruckt« (DV). - Nachdem der Verlag Bote & Bock ganze zwölf Jahre vergeblich auf die mit Strauß vertraglich vereinbarte Lieferung von sechs (der insgesamt zwölf) Liedkompositionen warten musste, zogen die Verleger 1918 vor Gericht, um den Komponisten zur Vertragserfüllung zu zwingen. Dies gelang auch, jedoch tat Strauß alles dafür, dass der Verlag daraus keinerlei Profit schlagen sollte. Er engagierte den Theaterkritiker Alfred Kerr, ihm Texte zu verfassen, in denen prominente deutsche Musikverleger verspottet werden. Gleich das Eröffnungslied ist dem Verleger Bock »gewidmet«, das zweite dessen Teilhaber Bote, andere richten sich an Breitkopf & Härtel, den Dreimasken-Verlag, B. Schott’s Söhne und Reineke. One bowl with deep rounded sides, painted in underglaze blue with a depiction of scholars playing a game and a bat, applied with a metal rim. One saucer of flaring form and shallow sides, painted to the exterior in underglaze blue with depictions of a rooster amongst flowers and with the inscription of the first sentence of the poem 'Peony' by Luo Ye. One with floral decoration in underglaze blue and crackled glaze. The bowl with a two-character Nei Fu ("inner court") mark and the saucer with six-character Da He Bao mark to the underside.Condition: The bowl with some hairline cracks, the saucer with one larger flake to the glaze, minor firing imperfections. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. A SOLID CLOISONNE ENAMEL TRIPOD INCENSE BURNERChina, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The cylindrical gilt-copper body, sturdily cast in circular form, raised on three ruyi-shaped feet to an everted rim, flanked by a pair of slightly S-shaped handles, brightly enameled at the outer wall with a scrolling multi-colored lotus pattern and a ruyi-shape band against a blue of Jingtai ground, the base and the rim gilt. A PAIR OF BRONZE CYMBALS, BO, XUANDE MARK AND PERIOD, DATED 1431China, 1426-1435. Each with a broad, flat rim that is slightly curved upward, and domed top finely incised with two sinuously coiled four-clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl. The other side of the top is neatly incised with a seven-character mark da Ming Xuande wu nianzhi (made in the fifth year of the Xuande reign of the Great Ming, corresponding to 1431) and of the period.Inscriptions: To each cymbal, 'da Ming Xuande wu nian zao' (made in the fifth year of the Xuande reign of the Great Ming)Provenance: From a noted Swiss private collection.Condition: Excellent condition, commensurate with age. Follower of ANTONIO ALLEGRI DA CORREGIO, (Italy, 1494 - 1534); Spanish school, 17th century."Ecce Homo".Oil on canvas glued to panel.It presents important faults and losses of the pictorial surface.Measurements: 34 x 27 cm; 48 x 41 cm (frame).The theme of the Ecce Homo belongs to the cycle of the Passion, and immediately precedes the episode of the Crucifixion. Following this iconography, Jesus is presented at the moment after being crowned with thorns and dressed in a purple robe (although it is barely visible here, in order to show the suffering of Christ's face more clearly). The words "Ecce Homo" are those pronounced by Pilate when presenting Christ to the crowd; their translation is "behold the man", a phrase by which he mocks Jesus and implies that Christ's power was not so great as that of the rulers who were judging him.Aesthetically, the composition of the face is reminiscent of the work by Antonio Allegri da Correggio (Italy, 1494-1534), now in the collection of the National Gallery, London.

Iain Macnab had been Principal at Heatherley's Art School (1925 - 1940) and then went on to be founding Principal of the hugely influential Grosvenor School of Modern Art. Sheila's London influences and Glasgow School foundations evolved into a distinctive and individual style. She usually worked "en plein air" and her work is semi abstract. She focused mainly on landscape where her training as a geographer, allowed her to use her understanding of land formation, the delicate balance of the seasons and the interaction between Man and the environment. Her uncle's concept of "rhythm" is evident in Sheila's work and remained a constant throughout her career. She painted in Scotland, Spain. France and Italy and exhibited widely especially in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London and Newcastle. Her work appeared frequently at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute, Paisley Art Institute annual exhibitions and at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (London). She won numerous awards and prizes over a long and distinguished career. In The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction of 24th October 2021, lot 510A "RONDA, SPAIN" a marginally larger picture of fundamentally the same view and painted on the same trip (2001) by Macmillan sold for £1700 (hammer).
