A good Chinese blue and white double-spouted teapot, Kangxi, the ovoid hexafoil body painted with flower-stems and foliage, repeated to the spouts and upright bracket handle and cover, the interior with a central partition, 15.5cm Provenance: The late J.B. da Silva (1918-2003) who inherited the teapot from his father-in-law in 1973.Exhibited: Oriental Ceramics Society, 1983, No. 28As tea drinking became increasingly popular in Europe in the 17th century, tea wares of Chinese porcelain found a ready market. This traditionally Chinese type was used to serve two different types of tea. Compare with a similar blue and white example in the collection of the Chitra Museum, London, No. 889. Similar Famille Verte examples are illustrated by, Regina Khahl, OCS Exhibition, 2016, China without Dragons, p. 310, no. 184. The author notes, 'A yixing teapot of this double form, and Western copy of it, were in the collection of Augustus the Strong of Saxony (r.1694-1733) and are preserved in the Zwinger Collection in Dresden.' Another illustrated by Dr C.J.A. A George III silver teapot and stand, Henry Green London 1787, the teapot of oval form with reeded banding to the body, spout and handle, the hinged cover with wooden finial and handle with carved thumb piece, 14cm high, 16.7ozt, with a matching oval stand on four ball feet, 16cm wide, 4ozt (2) Accompanied by a February 1958 edition of Country Life magazine referencing the purchase of this teapot (pg. 342) and receipt of purchaseCondition Report; Teapot: Fair order. There are a moderate amount of small dents to the body concentrated to the base and spout. Moderate scratching and pitting the the body and spout.There is evidence of large split in the base and subsequent solder repair (please see pictures). There are also a couple of small patches of solder repair to the base and around the top of the handle where it meets the teapot, and possible signs of further solder repair around the banding.Cover is slightly stiff, but opens easily and closes flush. The knop is loose, and the silver mount to the knop is slightly twisted. Handle is secure.Base: Fair order. Some possible signs of solder repair around the feet. Some denting concentrated around the border, and moderate scratching. Feet are heavily dented, and it does no sit flat on a level surface, wobbling slightly.Hallmarks to both pieces are crisp and clear.

On a flat surface, the carousel is slightly wobbly, but the base is stable. Handle is secure. No cracks or losses to the stand.There is a large split to the cover of the smallest caster, and the beginnings of splits in a couple of the other pieces. There are several, very large fractures and losses to the bases. There are small chips and nibbles to the high points and facet edges of the cut glass. No large cracks or breakages to the glass bodies which render it unusable.
