Lot 3

Various ceramics to include a fine quality porcelain cachepot hand-gilded and decorated with flowers and a heavy 19th century stoneware harvest jug impressed with the name 'Caroline'The modern Spode platter decorated in yellow and blue is in good order; the 19th century transfer-decorated and tinted slop/sugar bowl does have a long hairline crack emanating from the top of the lip gong down to and reaching the upper foot rim 9cm, apart from that it appears to be in pretty good overall condition; the late 19th century Royal Doulton teapot unusually transfer decorated hand-tinted with scrolling foliage and flower heads etc. which appears to be in reasonable order for the age, some glaze crazing and some gilding rubbed, handle appears to be in good condition, it is noted that the spout end has had some restoration probably some years ago, the lid appears in good general overall condition with no signs of restoration to the loop handle on the top, the cream glazing inside is good; the 19th century pewter-mounted ceramic hot-water jug with thumbpiece which exhibits glaze crazing to the inside of the hug and also to the underside which has a darker area commensurate with age, it is noted that there is some scratching and scuffing around the bottom area of the foot, some gilding away mostly to the handle area and scratches to the red ground, pewter thumbpiece is hinged and appears original and has two splits along the rim side of the pewter although the corresponding china lip appears in reasonable condition apart from minor rim fritting to the edges; the modern hand-gilded and decorated two-handled continental cachepot in seemingly good order although dirty, the handles look good and original, the decoration is bright, the gilding is good as is the underside of the foot; the hand-painted bone-china chocolate pot in Chinese style by James Skerrett, modern but based on an 18th century design and as such in good overall general condition with no major problems either to the main baluster-shaped body or the dome-topped cover; a 19th century glazed stoneware harvest style jug decorated profusely with fruiting vine and scenes of revelry with cherubs drinking and playing instruments in high relief, the moulded handle is formed as a whippet-style dog and unfortunately has sustained a crack right through just above the lower leg section, there are some (in the Auctioneer's opinion) firing cracks associated with the decoration in relief and, although they look like hairlines, were probably caused as a result of firing, where the dog's nose and legs are affixed to the upper body there is also a one-inch crack going right along which can be seen from the outside although not from the inside, Self-evidently, the four holes indicate that it would have had some sort of cover which is now lacking, the underside of the foot is as expected with varying colours and the spout appears good, the item appears heavy in the hand and as per catalogue description has the name 'Caroline' impressed in an uneven line indicating that the letters were pressed individually.
