A Meissen gold-ground coffee pot and cover, circa 1747Of quatrelobe baluster form, reserved with a panel on each side finely painted in green camaieu with a Watteauesque scene depicting, on one side, Pierrot and a lady standing by an obelisk in a park setting, the reverse with a seated lady with a child, the gilt ground reserved with green flowers, the handle gilt, the cover similarly decorated, 22.5cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue (finial restored, flat chip to edge of spout (gilding retouched) (2)Footnotes:The sugar box, teapot and milk jug and covers from the same service were in the Gustav von Klemperer Collection, Dresden (published by L. A Sèvres teapot and cover (Théière 'Calabre'), dated 1766Decorated with vertical gilt-edged panels of an ikat textile pattern, also known as chiné, alternating with blue stripes flanking pink-ground panels heightened with gilt foliate bands, the handle embellished in gilding, the cover similarly decorated and applied with a flower finial, 10.8cm high, interlaced LL monogram enclosing date letter n (tiny chips to cover finial) (2)Footnotes:Ikat textiles were fabrics woven from various pre-dyed yarns using a resist technique producing a soft, blurred and often geometric pattern, once woven into cloth. The technique was developed in different parts of the world, but is most often associated with Indonesia, where the term originates from. These fabrics started becoming fashionable in Europe in the 18th century and were known by the French terms chiné or chiné à la branche. By the 1760s French weavers were also producing their own versions, including in silk, which were started being used in fashionable dressmaking. Surviving gowns from the 1760s can be found amongst others in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (accession no. C.I.60.40.2a, b) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (accession no. A good documentary silver lustre jug, circa 1810, inscribed 'Jas. Benson', impress marked Wedgwood to base, height 14cm, together with a yellow ground bowl painted with polychrome flowers, height 7.5cm, and a Wedgwood & Co. basalt teapot, the lid with figural lift, height 12cm (3).Condition report: There is no restoration, the yellow bowl has two hairline cracks and chips to its foot, spout chip and tiny foot chip to teapot. The Wedgwood jug has no damage and little scratching
