GROUP OF THIRTEEN FAMILLE ROSE 'FISH' WARES 20TH CENTURY, DENG BISHAN MARK 二十世紀 鄧碧珊款 各色粉彩魚藻紋瓷器(一組十三件) comprising: a foliated oval plate, inscribed with a poem upper left, signed 'Tie Jianzi Deng Bishan', dated to the year of Ding Mao, corresponding to 1927AD, 27.7cm wide; a pair of larger bottle vases, 20.3cm high each; a pair of smaller ovoid vases, 13.8cm high each, all four inscribed with a poem, further with the year of Bing Chen, corresponding to 1916AD, signed 'Tie Jianzi Deng Bishan', the base sealed 'Bishan' in iron-red; a handled vase, 17cm high; a cylindrical mug, 11.1cm high; a lidded teapot, 14.7cm wide, all three inscribed with the same poem, signed 'Tie Jianzi Deng Bishan', dated to the year of Ding Mao, corresponding to 1927AD; a porridge jar and cover, inscribed and signed similarly as the former, dated to the year of Ji Si, corresponding to 1929AD, 14.5cm wide; a lidded cup, 13.9cm high; and three stem saucers, the stem foot of different form, all four signed 'Deng Bishan'Note: Note: One of the eight famous master ceramic painters of the Republic period, Deng Bishan (1874-1930) was known as the 'Eight Friends of Zhushan'. Among his most celebrated works were those depicting fish swimming amidst aquatic plants. As Deng Bishan was the son of an iron-monger, his chosen style name was Tiejianzi, 'The Child of Iron Shoulders' which appears on both vases.
