1936 Irish silver tea set gifted to Captain Michael W O'Reilly, GPO veteran on the occasion of his silver wedding anniversaryan Irish silver Celtic revival, three-piece, tea service, The teapot engraved, 'Presented to - Mr & Mrs MW O'Reilly - on the occasion of their silver wedding - by the Directors of - The New Ireland Assurance Co. Ltd. - 25 Jany. 1936.' Dublin, 1936, maker's mark for Alwright & Marshall. 34oz troy (1,067g) the teapot 7Other Notes: Captain Michael William O'Reilly was in born Stillorgan, County Dublin. He attended the Christian Brothers national school in Stillorgan. He joined the I.R.B. in 1911 and the Irish Volunteers on 25 November 1913 at the Rotunda Dublin, the night of their foundation. While serving as Captain of F Company 2nd Battalione he took part in the Howth Gun-Running. He later became Deputy Adjutant of the Dublin Brigade. He was appointed Aide de Camp to Joseph Mary Plunkett on Easter Monday 1916 and fought at the GPO. O'Reilly helped to evacuate the wounded and provided his handkerchief to be used as the white flag for the surrender. He was interned in England and released on Christmas Eve 1916. He served throughout the War of Independence. Captain O'Reilly did not take part in the Civil War. 7in. (17.8cm)
