A CHINESE PEWTER-ENCASED YIXING TEAPOT by Yang Pengnian (1796-1850), of square form, the handle, finial and spout in jade, one side of the vessel with a poetic inscription, probably by Zhu Yin, the other side decorated with flower blossoms, signed on the interior base Yang Pengnian, Qing Dynasty, 19th century, 13.5cm long.

(illustrated) CONDITION REPORT: Lot 1748 Hardwood handled broken and re glued just beneath the scroll, handle extensively loose at the top and bottom mountings, play in the flush hinge, top does not fit flush, some dents around the octagonal rim, dents and wear to the vine leaf and grape border, some dents and in filled polish to the ribbed band, bruising to the surbase, pitting minor rust and a slight bend to the spout of the teapot, the interior tannin stained.

The Gardner factory was established in the 18th century by Francis Gardner, a British banker, who helped bring the secret of porcelain production to Russia.
