A Sèvres tea service decorated en briques d'or, circa 1770Painted with a wide band of gilt tooled brickwork between bands of gilt laurel wreaths on a blue pointillist ground, comprising a teapot and cover (théière 'calabre'), a slop bowl (jatte 'Hebert'), a sugar bowl and cover (pot à sucre 'Bouret'), a milk jug on three legs (pot à lait à trois pieds), 13 cups and 12 saucers, (gobelet 'Bouillard' et soucoupe), the teapot: 13.8cm high interlaced LL monograms, some pieces with incised marks (31)Footnotes:Provenance:Property from the Collection of Dr. Johannes Ralph LafrenzA gobelet litron with alternating red and gilt brickwork is in the Royal Collection (see G. de Bellaigue, French Porcelain in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen, 2009, cat. no. 196, p. 792f.) The author notes that Svend Eriksen, writing about a similar gobelet litron with solid gilt bricks, dated 1770 at Woburn Abbey, points out that the first reference in the Sèvres factory sales' ledgers to this type of decoration dates from 1769. Geoffrey de Bellaigue however mentions a cup and saucer with gilt brick decoration dated 1767, which sold at Christie's, New York, 23 May 1995, lot 36. A rare Meissen Hausmaler teapot and cover, the porcelain early 1720s, the decoration probably circa 1740Painted in black monochrome with a continuous classical landscape scene depicting figures by ruins on one side and Bacchanalian figures on the reverse, below a gilt band with pendant scrollwork and flowers, iron-red line borders to rims, the domed cover similarly decorated, the curved spout with a mask terminal, 10.7cm high (2)Footnotes:Provenance:Mr and Mrs H.G.
