Painted in the workshop of James Giles with a peacock in a landscape to each side, with flowers to the cover and stylized puce borders c.1760, 13.25cm. Cf. Stephen Hanscombe, James Giles China and Glass Painter (1718-80) no. 56 for a very similar style of bird painting. Bonhmas, the Crane collection 31st March 2010, lot 278 for another similar naturalistic bird painting. Repair to the finial. Some wear and scratching to the enamels.
