AN INTERESTING AND POSSIBLY RARE EXAMPLES BY ONE OF JAPAN`S MOST CELEBRATED POTTERS NOMURA SEISUKE OTHERWISE KNOWN AS NINSEI WORKING IN KYOTO IN THE MID SEVENTEENTH CENTURY, in the form of a polygonally moulded faience SAKE OR TEAPOT. The yellowish/grey body covered with an opaque creamy-white finely crackled and pink holed glaze, having a mushroom-topped stopper and short spout, freely painted in blue and brown enamels into the white glaze with flower sprays, the shallowly concave base with five pad marks, an impressed seal mark just above the foot rim, 5" (12.5cm) N.B. As the products of Ninsei have been initiated at later periods we are not above to offer any assurance as to the genuineness of this lot, also offered with this piece a SIMILAR SMALL CAKE OR TEABOWL. Both the pieces have collectors numbers in red, the former numbered to the base and stopper 1288-88 and 492, an oldeo paper label numbered 766/5, the bowl 1009-88 and 214
