19th century mahogany cased drum head longcase Grandfather clock, the dial with two subsidiary dials named for Ritchie and Son of Edinburgh Condition Report:Wear to the dial, paint loss and craquelure. Bracket feet off and broken. Case is missing columns and there is no sign of it being worn.

Apprenticed at the age of sixteen to the prominent London joiner, William Sherborne, Grendey went on to establish his own business in 1726 and is known to have been operating from his workshops and warehouses in St John’s Square, Clerkenwell by 1731, where it is believed he remained until at least 1755. Much of Grendey’s furniture can be attributed to him by the large number of labelled pieces and his notable clients included Sir Richard Colt Hoare (1758-1838) of Barn Elms, as well as Lord Scarsdale (1726-1804) of Kedleston.Condition report: some small areas of loss of veneer to frame and drawer edging, crack to veneer top left of frame by brushing slide, brass to bottom key hole missing, light marks and scratches to top, front and sides

With pendulum and key. 42 cm high approx.(B.P. 21% + VAT) Minor knocks and losses to the case with use and wear. The face is noticeably worn to the numerals. Appears complete.
